Culture and the Arts
Dutch to English Translation
I mainly translate from Dutch to English. Dutch is my native language, and I have a Dutch degree in English (Rotterdam). I moved to Scotland in 1988, and since then English has been my language of habitual use. I have been a Member of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting for this combination since 2009.
In my many years of experience as a translator, I have had the opportunity to work on texts from a variety of different disciplines. There are four areas in which I have specialised:
- legal documents and contracts
- business and management
- food, food safety and food production
- culture and the arts.
I have extensive experience in other areas as well, including property management, horticulture and agriculture, human resources, finance, education and health & safety, and I also provide certified translations of documents such as qualifications and birth certificates for private clients.
In 2018-2019 I improved the English of a Dutch PhD student’s thesis on music and language. Another long-term project, which is still ongoing, is the translation of archive material about Dutch Jewish people during the Second World War for publication by a German academic research institute.
